WordPress blogs are a great way to sell your own products and/or affiliate products.

The first place to make sure you are monetizing are your posts. Make sure that when you refer to a specific product or service, that you link the name of the product or service. Do Not use the words ‘click here’ by using the name of the product or service you are writing about will also help you with search engine optimization.

To do this is easy actually here is an example -

When you enter the above, into the HTML area of your post, the words Product will be clickable by your visitors. Here’s a little trick to also make sure that when they click for the site to open in a new window, add target=_”blank” directly after the last ” of the link.

People like pictures so add images to your posts and blog and make sure you make them clickable as well, by adding the same HTML as above directly before the image coding and then put the </a> after the image code. This will make the image clickable by your visitors.

Another great way to sell products or services on your blog is to use the sidebars on your blog. This is easy to do by using the Text Widget, which you can find under the title Appearance of your dashboard. This Text Widget allows you to put anything inside you want. If you have a banner from a program, just copy the entire code for that banner and paste it directly into the Text Widget and click the Save button.

By adding links to specific words and images on your posts and pages, will help you make more sales and commissions.

Some of the things you need to look for in a good layout -

A nice but not overpowering header. Some people get these ‘big’ headers and you can’t even find the content until you scroll down. This is annoying to visitors. Keep your header small and your headline should state exactly what your blog is about.

A easy to read and follow navigation of important pages on your blog. Keep your navigation short you do not need to have all your pages on your navigation. There are plug ins available to help you control what is shown.

The size of your text and the color of your text is very important. It has been shown over and over that having a white background with black text is the easiest for visitors to read. The size of your text should be 12 to 14. Do not think that using fancy styling will make your blog look better, in reality it makes it harder for visitors to read.

If you are going to have a sidebar, it is recommended that you put this on the right hand side so visitors can see your content right away. Keep your sidebar clean and again easy to follow and understand.

These are just a few things to consider when considering the layout of your blog. Keeping these tips in mind while looking for a good wordpress theme will make things much easier for you and your visitors.

Don’t spend a lot of time on finding just the right layout, there are thousands of free or paid themes out there. Keep in mind it is very easy to change the look of your blog with a click of a button anytime you want.

You can have a blog about your favorite hobby, your work, your pets, anything at all.

The important thing when it comes to blog writing, is to write on a regular basis. Now some say you should write everyday if not more. This is not necessary and you don’t have to commit to that if you don’t want to or don’t have the time. Once a every couple of days is fine. You can also even write once a week.

Have a schedule set up so you are consistent with your posting to your blog. This will keep it looking natural and you will get more traffic from search engines.

Keeping to a specific schedule on your posting will make things easier for your visitors as well. They will be use to knowing that every Wednesday there will be a new post they can visit your blog to read.

This is a good question and an important question everyone starting out needs to be asking themselves. You don’t want any ole name for your blog.

It is vital that you name your blog on what you are going to be promoting or writing about.

So it is important that you do your research on just what people are looking for when they do a search on their favorite search engine. This is called keyword research and you have to drill it down as far as you can.

So for example, if you are going into the bearded dragon niche, you do not want to name your blog bearded dragon, it is much to broad. Let’s narrow this down to specific niche.

After doing some keyword research, I find that terms like bearded dragon care, bearded dragon food, bearded dragon habitat are very popular and searched for a lot.

This is much better than just naming it bearded dragon, by naming a blog like bearded dragon habitat, I can now talk about the proper set up, heating and lighting and even have affiliate products link to this blog to make some money.

Keep in mind these key aspects when you are naming your blog. Keep it simple and to the point. Make sure that what you name your blog is what your blog is talking about.

So you wouldn’t name a blog bearded dragon habitat and then talk about lizards in general or leopard geckos, you want to talk about and show products for bearded dragons specifically.

Believe me I have seen a lot of people do this, they set up a blog on one niche yet insist to write about something that is not related at all. This not only hurts your search engine rankings but people won’t be interested in your blog.

If you are considering setting your blog on free hosting there are some key points you will need to be aware of. One important key point is that you are NOT in control of your blog and the content on it. You are very limited to what you can do with your blog and what you can promote.

Posting – blogs are known for people expressing their opinions and talking about their passions. You do need to write posts to keep traffic coming to your blog. If you are writing about something you enjoy then this shouldn’t be difficult. You don’t have to be a copywriter to accomplish this, just write tips and suggestions on your passion, you will be surprised just how many others share this.

Selling products or services – this is probably a big thing for most bloggers. Is to make some money while having fun. It is very easy to add products to your blog either by banners, clickable text, and even have a storefront on your blog. Your blog can have multiple pages and links to other services and products that your readers can click through to so you can make some money selling your products or affiliate products.

1. You are not using a word press self hosted blog.

Solution: Get your own domain name from reliable registrars like GoDaddy and then get yourself the right kind of hosting from companies like HostGator or even GVO these two top notch hosting companies have proven to support word press blogs, the support you get is outstanding.

2. Not having your blog user friendly and search engine friendly.

Solution: Make sure that your navigation is easy to understand and follow for your visitors. There is a lot of talk whether a navigation should be on top or below the header, on the left or right.I have tested all these areas and I haven’t found that one works better than another. Just be sure it is easy to find and understand. Now to make your blog search engine friendly is very easy to do, all you really need is a free plug in called All-In-One-SEO after you upload just set it up. It’s not hard to do just follow the instructions. The most important parts of this is to make sure you are using keywords in your post titles and good descriptions and good keywords. 3. Not changing the way your links look for browsers and search engines.

Solution: the default url for any blog post or blog page is not only ugly but search engines will never find your post or pages. Just go into your dashboard and click on Settings, then click on Permalinks. Here you are going to see a few different ways you can set your links to look. The best way to do this is to select the Custom one and enter into the box /%postname%/ this will make your posts and pages links nicer looking and search engines will now know what your blog is about and start to index you.

4. Not putting links within their posts and pages.

Solution: There are many different ways to do this, and you don’t need to know HTML to do it. At the top of the area you type in your post or page there is a section it is labeled link or it is a picture that looks like a paperclip. Highlight the words you want to be clickable and then enter in the proper link, so when visitors come across your post they can click the words to be taken to the website or blog of your choosing.

5. Not having videos on your blog.

Solution: Today videos are all over the place. I have found that the #1 reason most do not have a video on their post or pages is they think they have to make it. This is soo not true. Just head over to YouTube and find a video you like that is related to your blog, to the right on YouTube is a code its called embed just highlight this code and insert it into your post. Now you will need to make sure that the tabs at the top of your posts read HTML and not Visual or it won’t work. There are also plug ins that will assist you with inserting videos into your posts and pages. Just go to Google and do a search for them, most plug ins are free!

Just by following these solutions to some of the top 5 mistakes most make will make your blog stand out more and help the search engines find you. This will increase your traffic and then of course increase your sign ups and sales

Add ons for your blog – it is essential that you have the proper plug ins for your blog. There is one very important plug in – All In One SEO all blogs should have, this gives you the ability to make your posts search engine friendly and picked up quickly. But your actual post is written for the human reader.

Visibility – get your blog out there on all the social networks that you can. There are tons of places you can post your blog link and start getting noticed. Use the top sites like Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube. Also don’t forget about places like StumbleUpon and Digg.

Consistently – the thing I see more than ever is people do one or two things just a few times, don’t get the results they want and quit. Do not do this, it takes time to start anything and things will not happen over night. Be consistent in what you do. Always be adding new content when you can.
